As an upcoming college freshman, I have certainly felt the vastness of my future professional career looming before me and thought with uncertainty: Am I making the right choice? Is this the right path to follow? While Careering couldn’t provide a definite answer to those personal questions, the guidance that Raymond offers certainly made me feel a lot more confident in my path forward. By providing simple yet concrete advice, easy-to-follow steps, and multiple opportunities for self-reflection, Careering is a wonderful resource for children, teens, young adults, and everyone in between hoping to learn how to find a fulfilling career.

Thoughts
First Impression
In a compact and easy-to-handle format, Careering really is the perfect “pocket guide for exploring your future career.” The cover of the book is bright and visually appealing without being busy or overwhelming. In fact, those adjectives pretty well describe the book as a whole. All of the information is very clearly laid out in a format that is engaging and easy to comprehend. Yet despite the plethora of information and advice, Careering manages not to become overwhelming or overcrowded with tips and tricks.
Appreciation
I wish that I had read this book so much sooner!
Careering really is filled with so much great advice although the first two “steps” that the book outlines are probably going to be most helpful for underclassman in high school. As a student entering college in the fall, some of the tips outlined in the first two steps might have perhaps been a little less impactful upon me than they might have been upon middle-schoolers or high school freshman. Still, the advice that Raymond presented in these chapters can certainly be adapted for just about any child or young adult at any stage of their journey. So, if you are wondering if you or your reader is too young or too old for this book the answer is honestly: probably not!
The best part about Careering is that it has advice for just about every stage of the professional journey, so if you happen to already be past steps one or two then you can still find a wealth of information in the later chapters.
Criticism
Like many things in life, Careering really is what you make of it. If you simply read the advice and don’t take the time to actually do any of the steps that Raymond suggests you could probably read through the whole book in under an hour and then just walk away with slightly more information than you had when you started. But if you genuinely want to get a lot out of this book, some effort is required, meaning that you actually have to do at least some – if not all – of the steps that Raymond recommends.
I guess that I just recommend asking yourself if you are willing to put in the work to set yourself up for a great future. If the answer is yes, then Careering might be a wonderful addition to your journey!
The last word
Raymond really does walk the reader through just about every step of the journey from discovering potential professional interest to getting hired for your dream job. If you are willing to put in the effort to implement her advice than this book has the potential to set you up for a wonderful professional career.
Anytime is a good time to start “careering”…
