I’m Thankful For: Literacy
Happy Thanksgiving!
I’m Thankful For…
Happy November and if you celebrate it, Happy Thanksgiving!
I’ve been feeling very much in the Thanksgiving spirit lately and I started thinking about all of the wonderful reasons I have to be thankful. Even in difficult times like these, there are so many things to be grateful for. As I was reflecting on this, the ability to read, quickly came to my mind as one of the many reasons I have to be thankful.
Books have played such a major role in my development as a person, and if this website is not proof enough, I absolutely love to read. It struck me quite poignantly that not everyone has the ability or the opportunity to learn how to read, and so I thought that I would do a little research on what I could do to help.
Below, I’ve listed just a few of the many organizations and nonprofits who aim to increase rates of literacy.
Disclaimer: I have not researched these extensively, so please be aware of that and do your own research!
Room to Read
Room to Read is a non-profit organization promoting girls’ education and children’s literacy on the continents of Africa and Asia. Through education, the organization aims to improve both literacy and gender equality.
