Publishing at a Young Age with Kristina Naydonova

How old were you when you first decided that you wanted to be an author?
I was in second grade when I wrote and created my first story, a fairytale based cardinally off Goldilocks and the Three Bears. It was then I realized how truly intrigued I was by writing and the craft of weaving words into beautiful expressions designated to resonate with readers.

What inspired you to pursue publication at such a young age?

Great question! I was inspired by numerous authors, such as Stephen King, to pursue a published novel in the crime fiction genre. As I’ve always been fascinated by the concept of writing and reading, I decided to progress with an entire novel rather than just poems or short stories.

What has been your biggest challenge as a young author?

My biggest challenge as a young author has definitely been establishing credibility in a field dominated predominantly by adults. It’s fairly frequent that other authors or adults perceive me as less capable due to the simple factor of my age; I’m working to prove it truly does not depend on how old or young you are to leave an impact in this world.

Would you say that it’s it difficult to balance being a writer and ‘just being a kid’?

I understand that life, especially at this age, requires an equilibrium between being a writer and maintaining a social life as well as keeping up with the strenuous feat of school. I endeavor to maintain mindfulness everyday and exercise efficiency and thoughtfulness in everyone of my routines.

Do you that feel you’ve grown as an author since you’ve published your first book, The Black Sisterhood Files?

Yes, I truly have! I’ve gotten much more acquainted with what it takes to write and publish a book as well as making a sincere breakthrough in the lives of people. It’s been such an honor to receive emails or messages from young writers, saying their work inspired me to create something of their own. It’s the most remunerating experience!

What are your plans for the future in regards to writing?

In regards to writing, I plan to publish a couple more novels and have sort of a “side hustle” as an author if that makes sense.

Do you think that writing will be a big part of your future, or will it play a smaller role?

Definitely a large role; I plan to pursue a career that involves my talents and hobbies, reading and writing. Not quite sure what yet, but I am positive of the fact that it will entail writing in some sort of way.

Do you have any advice you’d like to share with other child authors hoping to follow in your footsteps?

This may sound cheesy and incredibly cliche, but truly never give up. I underwent many rejections and failures during my journey as an author, but rose from beyond the rut and managed to get published. And so can you! I believe in you.
